Love in a Mist ( Nigella )
Also known as Nigel ( or Nigella Damascena ) commonly refers to delicacy and perplexity, as well as love chains.

Daisy ( Margherita )
This flower belongs to the Daisy family ( or Compositae family ), which is thought to be the largest genus with over 1200 species. According to medioeval tradition, the daisy has a very precise meaning: " I will think about it". Catholic tradition then gives this flower serveral other meanings: youthful beauty, cheerfulness, loyal love.

Carnation ( Garofano )
Many are the meanings which were given to this flower during the past centuries. According to Greek mythology, Danae, the hunting goddess, met a young shepherd, Endymion, whom she first loved, and then left. The tears shed by the love-struck sherpherd turned then into a bunch of beautiful flowers. Those flowers were carnations. Christian tradition also told that Virgin Mary shed tears at Jesus' plight, and carnation sprang up from where her tears fell. The carnation has different meanings depending on the color: the red one means ardour and admiration, the white devotion and innocence, while the yellow one refers to both disdain and rejection.

Yellow Rose ( Rosa Gialla )
Jealousy and unfaithfulness, and also freedom from love-chains.

Sunflower ( Girasole )
Also known as Elianto. The sunflower commonly refers to both adoration and false richness.

Lily ( Giglio )
A Christian legend told that Virgin Mary chose Joseph because she saw him holding a lily in his hands. Depending on the color, the lily may have different meanings: a white lily refers to purity of heart, virginity, majesty, while a wild yellow lily may mean "I'm walking on air" or either "false and gay" according to some old british Victorian terms.

Cornflower ( Fiordaliso )
Means true friendship, loyalty.

Snapdragon ( Bocca di Leone )
The common name derives from the flowers which, when squeezed, open their "mounth". Tradition refers to the snapdragon's meanings as capriciousness, whimsical. During the Middle Ages, women used to decorate their hair with snapdragons in order to refuse unwanted courters. That's reason why the snapdragon commonly refers to both deny and deception.

Rose ( Rosa )
The rose deserves a whole dictionary on its own. Each different rose color brings up a different message, even if there's a whole meaning which gathers them all: a rose means secret, as well as things to be gently and sweetly revealed. A rose whose bud is hidden behind the petals embodies female virginity, while a rose in bloom represents youthful beauty. Red roses mean passion, true love; pink roses stand for tenderness, gratitude, perfect happiness.

Jasmine ( Gelsomino )
White jasmine means amiability and wealth, the yellow one refers to both grace and elegance. In Spain, a jasmine flower represents sensuality ( Spanish Jasmine ).

Orchid ( Orchidea )
Over the centuries orchid history shows they have been a symbol of love, luxury and beauty. Another one of orchid facts is seen in the Middle Ages where they were used as a remedy for a number of illnesses. They have also been considered an aphrodisiac and a main ingredient in certain love potions, prepared by using both roots and stems. Orchids usually mean sensuality, but also luxury, fascination, and also good taste.
